A Beautiful Rainy Wedding at Old Oak Farm – Luke & Megan’s Big Day

Luke and Megan’s wedding at Old Oak Farm was a day full of warmth and joy, even with a little rain. From the way everyone embraced the weather to the personal touches that made the day uniquely theirs, it was a true celebration of love. We felt so welcomed into their world and can’t wait to share the highlights of their beautiful day at this stunning venue.

Embracing the Rain at Old Oak Farm

The rain didn’t faze anyone & it definitely didn’t dampen this day. People were running between barns, laughing, huddling under umbrellas, it actually added to the vibe. It gave the day this cosy, laid-back energy, and made the whole thing feel even more connected. Old Oak Farm looked amazing as it was, but with everyone embracing the weather, it just felt even more memorable.

The Personal Bits That Hit Hard

The day was full of proper moments, the kind that stick. In the morning, Luke had a first look with his boys which was absolutely hilarious, full of banter and big reactions. They also swapped a few gifts between them which was such a nice touch before everything kicked off. Megan shared her own quiet moments with family too, including a first look with her parents that hit everyone in the feels. This was one of those weddings where you could tell how much love there was in the room

How did you guys meet?

Luke and I were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend when we were both living in Liverpool. It was during covid times so we had to claim we were "housemates" on the door to the retro arcade bar when we went in! We got on so well and we individually texted our friend (without the other knowing) that we were having such a great time and the rest is history!

When did you guys start planning your wedding?

Within days after getting engaged which was in October 2023. I was just so excited and I wanted to be able to picture our wedding and get everything booked! The whole planning process was something I was really excited about.

How long did it take you to find your perfect wedding venue?

We were living in Australia when Luke proposed so I had to send my Mum to go and check out a venue but I told her there's not much point in looking anywhere else other than Old Oak Farm - she loved it so we trusted her and booked it without ever seeing it ourselves! When we were visiting home in summer 2024 we went to have a look and I cried the second I got out the car! It was absolutely perfect and everything we ever dreamed of.

How would you describe your wedding theme? What was the inspiration?

We definitely took inspo from the venue which was very relaxed, shabby chic and on a farm in the countryside so we told our guests "summer garden party". We're not super formal people anyway so we wanted it to be more chilled and so Luke opted not to go for tails and to wear a 3 piece instead. We wanted it to all feel quite homely so my brothers girlfriend (and one of my bridesmaids) did all the art for the day and hand wrote all the name cards, welcome sign and seating plan board which helped make it feel very rustic and homemade.

Tell us about your ceremony & your wedding reception

We had always wanted to get married outside which was one of the benefits of choosing Old Oak Farm as our venue however it poured with rain all morning on our wedding day so we had to opt for an indoor ceremony. I always thought that if that happened I'd be a bit sad however it made it really cosy inside, we loved it (all our umbrella pics were our favourite ones)! If I could go back and make it perfect sunshine all day, I don't think I would - it really added to the character of the day and the sun came out for the evening which made the lighting so beautiful. We wanted our ceremony to be really personal so we got some family and friends to write their own readings / speeches about us and how we met plus we also decided to write our own vows to each other. Our reception was initially spent all taking cover from the rain outside but we moved inside shortly after and just really enjoyed chatting with everyone which was a huge priority for us!

What was your favourite part of planning your wedding?

Wedding dress shopping was probably the most fun bit! I brought a couple of my bridesmaids and my mum, aunty and godmother along to a few different places and tried on so many dresses! I also really loved our planning meetings at our venue because it just enabled me to visualise it all completely.

Do you have any regrets or things you wish you knew before planning a wedding?

I don't have any regrets at all about anything on our wedding day or with regards to planning really! I think looking back I spent so much time fussing over tiny details which on the day I didn't even notice and almost certainly no one else notices as well! Also I think utilising your bridesmaids / groomsmen / family and delegating certain jobs on the day is so important (which is very hard for a control freak to do) but it just ensures that on the day you're just focussing on having fun, spending time with your guests and you can be sure that other reliable people are sorting other things out! You can't do everything. Also I was so worried about the smaller movements of the day and how people were going to get from x to y, where I was supposed to stand for the ceremony or how the confetti walk would be instigated but these things genuinely do just happen and making sure you can rely on your bridal party is so essential for the running of things like that!

Looking back on your wedding now, what was the most memorable moments?

I think when I started the walk up to the doors of the barn and I could hear the music was such a powerful moment. Seeing Luke's face for the first time at the bottom of the aisle is also something I'll never forget. Also walking in to 'I believe in a thing called love' when we were sitting down for our dinner and everyone waving their napkins and singing it back to us was the best feeling ever. We also absolutely loved going off for our photos - we were out in the rain at times and we ran through the long grass (in heels) and just really threw ourselves in which absolutely paid off with the photos! Having all our photos done was really nice and honestly just felt like Luke and I were alone and chatting for most of it which was lovely.

What were some of the best decisions you made when planning your wedding day?

Get all the suppliers booked ASAP after your venue is booked so that you get who you want! (That's what we did with S&K)! Once that's all done there's not a huge amount to do until nearer the time so you can relax a bit after that. Also having a master spreadsheet for email addresses, RSVPs, dietaries etc was a life saver.

If you had any advice for future bride & grooms, what would that be?

Luke and I made sure that we took ourselves off for 15 mins to have some time alone and watch our wedding party. I'm so glad we did that because it just really allowed it all to sink in but we did have to really seek it out and enforce it! It was definitely the most common piece of advice we had before our wedding. Also I would say when you're doing "the rounds" and saying hello to all your guests at the reception and between courses - go around together so that you can spend more time with each other.

Kind Words from Luke & Megan

“Where to even start with these two!! We could not be more thrilled with our wedding photos, and since we got them a few days ago I've done nothing other than look at them or think about them. We felt so looked after by S&K all day, it just felt like they knew exactly what they were doing and we were in such capable hands. They knew exactly what to say to create the best and most natural photos. I couldn't be more happy with our decision to go with them but to be honest we knew from the start that these guys were the only ones we wanted. Everyone commented on the day at how amazing they were and what a lovely addition to the day they were. They slotted into our family so well! We had our sneak peaks by 08:30 the morning after the wedding and our full gallery not too long after which timed so nicely with the last day of our honeymoon. These guys are the best. We'll remember them forever!!”
